Producing a cup of coffee today can be performed in a variety of ways from instant to the top of the range coffee machines. People have become particular about their brew and with so many choices available, it's just about got to the stage where some sort of degree is required just in the selection process.

Coffee machines too have evolved with technology and we will look at some of the types of machines available today.

Coffee Machines - What's Your Preference

The gourmet coffee machines have become popular in the last few years. From single cup coffee makers to machines capable of producing a dozen cups of joe. Price and level of drinker will determine the type of machine you select as these machines can range in price from less than a hundred dollars to several thousand.

My preference is still the good old coffee percolator. I'm not sure what it is but a percolator has the ability to transform the aroma of a house into one of pure pleasure as it builds up a head of steam. Some people scoff at the suggestion of a percolator being the first choice for brewing coffee and you know, I can never understand why.

This machine isn’t really difficult to use. There is a pot, with a small built in metal filter and basket with a tube going from the bottom of the pot up into the basket. When the water in the body of the pot boils, the water is drawn up the tub into the basket of coffee. As the boiling water rolls through the coffee grounds, coffee is made. It's that simple. Just place on the stove and use!

Automatic Drip Coffee Machines

An automatic drip coffee machine is probably the most common today. These sit on your kitchen bench and include a glass carafe for the coffee to drip into. There is a warming plate under the carafe to keep the coffee warm. Water is placed into the reservoir, and after the coffee machine is switched on, the water is forced through the basket area where the coffee grounds are placed in a filter. These are very simple to use and make a decent pot of coffee.

One of the newest coffee machines on the market today is the pod system. Each coffee machine has its own specific brand of pod and that is the only type of pod that can be used in that specific machine. The pods themselves come in a fairly wide variety of flavors so it is not hard to find the coffee you like. Often a pod will produce one cup of coffee, which is great if you only want a single cup of coffee. If you like having an entire pot at hand, a pod coffee machine may not be the best machine for you.

Coffee is such a debatable subject but the thing to remember is, each person has their own preference and all I can say is, don't be swayed by popular opinion. If you like coffee brewed a particular way that's great. There is a coffee machine out there for you and the best part is, there is such a wide choice to choose from.
